The purpose of cleaning a piercing is to promote
proper healing and avoid infection. You should not
remove or change your jewelry for the entire duration of the
initial healing period: Nose 4-6 months, Helix/tragus/rook 4-6 months, Earlobes 6-8 weeks, Eyebrow 6-8 weeks
TO CLEAN YOUR PIERCING:
First of all wash your hands with an antibacterial
soap before cleaning the piercing. Never touch it with
unwashed hands. Apply a small amount of the antibacterial
soap in your hands (we recommend Provon) and gently spread the
foam over your piercing, and rinse with water.
You don’t need to move or twist the jewelry. This
will only aggravate the piercing. This cleaning should be done no more or less
than 2 times a day, as over cleaning can damage the regrowth of skin
cells and cleaning less frequently may cause healing complications.
TO HEAL YOUR PIERCING:
Warm saltwater soaks
will help your body to heal your new piercing. Saltwater
soaks draw out discharge (dead cells) and accelerate the healing
process. To soak, add 1/4 teaspoon of non-iodized
sea salt (not table salt)
to an 8 oz cup of warm water.
Stir and soak a cotton ball in solution and place on your piercing.
Hold it there for 15 minutes.
Use a new cotton ball for each soak. Do warm saltwater
soaks 2 times a day
during the entire healing period. Rinse with
water after you have finished the soaks.
To assist the healing process, Zinc (60mg)
or vitamin C (100mg) supplements are suggested to help speed
the healing process and regeneration of tissue. It is
recommended to eat before taking zinc to avoid an upset stomach.
PLEASE AVOID THE FOLLOWING:
Never touch your piercing with unwashed hands. This is crucial in order to ensure proper healing.
The only time a piercing should be touched is when being cleaned.
Avoid contact with oils, powders, creams, perfumes, and suntan
lotion. Avoid contact with other bodily fluids, even
if you are in a monogamous relationship. Your partner
has different natural bacteria than you and an infection can
occur. Do not go into pools, hot tubs, lakes
or oceans for at least 4 weeks.

Tattoo Aftercare
- 1st day- Leave the bandage on for 2 hours or until you get home. Wash your hands prior to removing bandage.
Immediately wash tattoo with warm water and liquid anti-bacterial soap (Dial) to remove any ointment, blood or plasma and to completely clean the tattoo. Repeat until tattoo is no longer slimy or glazed.
(Do not use washcloth on tattoo until completely healed.) Let air dry. DO NOT REBANDAGE THE TATTOO.
- 2nd-3rd day Repeat the cleaning procedure twice per day, washing with Dial antibacterial soap. Remember to use freshly washed hands to clean the tattoo. In addition, apply a thin layer of Aquaphor (available at Walgreens) twice per day over the freshly washed tattoo.
- 4th day-healed Stop using the Aquaphor and switch to Lubriderm, Curel or Out to Sea fragrance free lotion. Apply a very light layer to tattoo 2-3 times per day. Always use freshly washed hands.
Additional Tips: Do not expose
tattoo to sunlight for at least 2 weeks or until tattoo
is healed. To preserve your tattoo, once it is healed, apply
sun block to tattoo if it will be exposed to the sun. Do
not soak tattoo in water (bathing or swimming) for at least
2 weeks or until healed. If you work out (esp. cardiovascular
or aerobic) take some time off. Profuse sweating has the
same effect on new tattoos as soaking in water. Wear loose
clothing of natural fibers that can allow your healing tattoo to breathe.
Do not pick at or scratch new tattoos. This will cause damage
to the design. If it itches, apply more lotion or cream.
Average healing time is 7-14 days.
